Glycemic Index Foods List

Glycemic index foods list is list, in which various foods are mentioned having different levels of sugar in them. A GI score of 100 in which high scores are given to high glycemic foods and low scores are given to low glycolic foods measures this sugar level. These scores are rated in glycemic index foods list. High glycolic foods cause sudden and rapid increase in the level of sugar in blood and low glycolic foods cause slow increase in sugar level and keep it in a constant manner.

A diet in which foods are involved which are high glycolic, can cause severe health problems, especially on those who are suffering from overweight and heart-related problems. This type of diet can also create problem for those also who are living a deskbound life, means they remain inactive most of the time in a day.

On the other hand, intake of low glycolic food can provide the required energy to body with a feeling of fullness between each meal. This may help a person to maintain its fitness and to improve the eating habits. Those who are suffering from the problem of overweight and fat, heart- disease and diabetes then they can easily get rid of them by adopting low glycolic food in their diet. Low glycolic foods keep the cholesterol level low and help to extend the physical stamina and staying power of body and mind. This type of diet also helps to avoid junk foods as it gives the feeling of fullness of stomach between meals for a long time.

In glycemic index foods list, there are three categories of foods, which are termed as low glycemic foods, medium glycemic foods and high glycemic foods. Low glycemic foods are those, which scored as low in glycemic index food lists. These types of foods are rated between 0-49 or you can say less than 50. These types of foods are tomatoes, cherries, zucchini, dried peas, plum, soya milk, fat-free milk, low fat yogurt, cabbage, celery etc. Cucumber, avocado, eggplant, lettuce, baby lima beans, peppers, peanuts, grapes, orange, mushrooms, green peas, peach, custard and many more are also treated as low glycemic food. These all are low glycemic foods, which are listed in glycemic index foods list. It is suggested to add these foods in routine diet to keep you fit and healthy.

Medium glycemic foods are those, which are rated in 50-70. These foods are neither harmful nor healthy. It means that these types of foods not affect health. On the same time, not gives any benefit to health. The medium glycemic foods, which are listed in glycemic food list, are kiwi, papaya, mango, raisins, banana, apricots, and fruit cocktail. Light apricot syrup, cheese macaroni, bran muffin, orange juice, bran chex, mini shredded wheat etc. are included in this list. These foods are rated as medium glycemic foods in glycemic index foods list.

Glycemic Index Foods List

Wafer biscuits, parsnips, weetabix, white rolls, pumpkins, baked potatoes, millet, rice cakes etc are high glycemic foods, which are rated as high glycemic foods in glycemic index food list. The value of these foods are rated with the value more than 70. Kaiser roll, mashed potatoes, bran flakes, bread flakes and dates are some other foods included in list.

Every food has different GI value in glycemic index and gives effects on health according to the content of glycemic value in them. Mostly, low GI foods are suggested by health experts and dieticians to be fit and healthy, and for the elimination of various diseases from body.
